Low Ball · Low Total

Two points a hole: the best single score, and the best pair added together.

Fixed teams, and two questions on every hole. Who made the single best score — and whose two scores are better together?

The rules

One point for the better low ball, one for the better combined total, each paying the stake a man. Ties on either count void that point. Nothing carries.

Where [Low Ball · High Ball](/games/low-ball-high-ball) asks whose weak man is less weak, this asks whose pair is better as a pair — so a birdie and a triple loses the total to two steady pars, and the man grinding out bogeys is suddenly worth having.

How we play it

Net scoring, matching the rest of the round.

How it settles

$2 a point. Your 3 wins low ball; their 4-and-4 beats your 3-and-7 on total. One point each, nothing moves, and your partner apologises on the walk to the next tee.

Rivalry scores Low Ball · Low Total live — the rules stated on the first tee, the money running along the bottom of the card, and the settle done to the dollar when the last putt drops. The round goes into your group's permanent record, because a game this good deserves to be remembered past the car park.

Some scores take years to settle.

Rivalry is in closed beta with a handful of groups. Leave an email and we’ll tell you when there’s room.
